Brthday party turns fatal: Youth stabbed to death over cake smearing, 2 friends held

 A birthday celebration ended in a brutal murder in Jammu after an argument over smearing cake on face took a violent turn. Police have arrested two brothers in connection with the case within hours of the incident.

According to police, the incident took place on the night of September 17, 2026, near Lower Roop Nagar area when a youth identified as Neeraj alias Anshu was celebrating his birthday on roadside along with his friends. His brother Rishu was also present there.

Police said that the deceased, identified as Pawan Nair alias Sameer, was also among the friends present at the spot along with John Sotra, Gaurav Singh and Sugandh Bhatti.

During the cake cutting ceremony, Pawan allegedly applied cake on the face of birthday boy Neeraj, which led to a heated argument between the two. When other friends tried to intervene and pacify the matter, Neeraj reportedly got enraged.

In a fit of rage, Neeraj allegedly took out a Khokhri (sharp-edged weapon) which he was carrying and attacked Pawan on his neck, causing grievous injuries.

The injured youth was immediately rushed to Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital Jammu by his friends where doctors declared him brought dead.

On getting information from Police Post GMC Jammu, a team from Police Station Janipur reached the hospital and started preliminary enquiry.

Police said a case under FIR No. under Section 103(1) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered at Police Station Janipur and investigation has been started.

Acting swiftly, police apprehended both the accused brothers - Neeraj alias Anshu and Rishu - and they are presently in custody at Police Station Janipur. Police said the weapon of offence is being recovered and further investigation is going on. The body of the deceased has been shifted to GMC mortuary for post-mortem examination.
