JAMMU :The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) witnessed very slow traffic movement in last 24 hours due to single lane, undulating and uneven road surface at several places, Traffic Police Headquarters, J&K, Jammu/Srinagar said on Saturday.
As per traffic update from 26-09-2026, 1600 hrs to 27-09-2026, 1600 hrs, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to single lane and uneven surface at Dawal, Udhampur as well as single-lane stretch between Marog and Kishtwari Pather. The slow movement was also caused by breakdown of 03 vehicles between Marog and Nachlana and movement of 10 nomadic herds crossing Banihal-Nachlana stretch.
Traffic was managed in regulated manner at Dawal, Udhampur on NH-44 due to single lane of about 30-40 meters.
The department said that owing to ongoing movement of nomadic herds, traffic on single-lane stretch from Marog to Kishtwari Pather is likely to slow down. Commuters have been advised to follow lane discipline and avoid overtaking.
Passengers and LMV operators have been advised to prefer journey on Jammu-Srinagar NHW during daytime and avoid night travel due to apprehension of shooting stones and landslides, movement of nomads from valley and ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal.
Meanwhile, in view of widening work being undertaken by NHAI on Digdol-Khooni Nalla axis, movement of Kashmir bound oil and gas tankers shall remain restricted on this stretch during daytime between 0700 hrs to 1900 hrs as movement of tankers loaded with inflammable material is restricted through tunnels. As such, movement of up tankers shall be allowed beyond Chenani only after 1700 hrs upto 0500 hrs.
*Traffic Plan & Advisory For 28-09-2026:*
*Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44):* Subject to fair weather and better road conditions, LMVs Passenger/Private Cars/HMVs (Goods carrier) shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NHW viz from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa. Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline as overtaking and wrong lane driving will cause congestion.
*Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag NH-244:* Subject to fair weather, LMVs Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed from both sides on Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road. Vehicles shall be allowed from PP Parana towards Anantnag between 0800 hrs and 1600 hrs and from Daksum towards Kishtwar between 0900 hrs and 1600 hrs.
*SSG Road (Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri):* LMVs shall be allowed from both sides. Vehicles shall be allowed from Sonamarg towards Kargil and from Minamarg towards Srinagar upto 1300 hrs. HMVs shall be allowed from Sonamarg towards Kargil between 1200 hrs and 1700 hrs. No vehicle after 1700 hrs.
*Mughal Road (NH-701A):* Vehicular movement (LMVs followed by HMVs up to ten tyres) shall be allowed from both sides from Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa between 0700 hrs and 1800 hrs.
People are advised to undertake journey only after confirming status of road from Traffic Control Units - Jammu (0191-2459048), Srinagar (0194-2450022), Ramban (9419993745) and Udhampur (8491928625).
