SRINAGAR :Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a chargesheet in a case related to forged official letter bearing fake signature of Lieutenant Governor addressed to SSP Anantnag.
The chargesheet has been filed in FIR No. 29/2026 under Sections 204, 319(2), 336(2) and 340(2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) before the Court of Sub-Judge Srinagar against accused Saqlain Mushtaq Dar, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Dar, resident of Deeri Pulwama.
As per officials, the case pertains to a forged communication purportedly addressed to Senior Superintendent of Police Anantnag, wherein the sender falsely impersonated Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. The letter was prepared using counterfeit official letterhead and forged signature with an aim to unlawfully influence functioning of Anantnag District Police.
During investigation, the allegations and collected evidence were found to substantiate commission of offences under relevant provisions of BNS. Accordingly, the investigation has been concluded as proved and chargesheet has been submitted before the court for judicial determination.
Meanwhile, EOW has appealed general public to remain vigilant against attempts involving impersonation of public authorities, fabrication of forged letters, documents, official letterheads and signatures. People have been urged to verify authenticity of any suspicious communication purportedly issued by government authorities and report the same immediately to Economic Offences Wing.
