JAMMU :Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Saturday visited Udhampur district and reviewed the ongoing anti-terror operations in the higher reaches along the Udhampur-Kathua border belt.
The area along the Udhampur-Kathua faultline is considered strategically sensitive as it has been used by infiltrating terrorists in the past to enter the hinterland of Jammu region.
Officials said the visit of the police chief comes just days after security forces achieved a major success in the area. On September 17, two Pakistani terrorists affiliated with proscribed terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) were killed in a joint operation by Army, Police and CRPF in Soan area of Majalta in Udhampur district.
DGP Nalin Prabhat was accompanied by Inspector General of Police (IGP), Jammu Range, Tejinder Singh during the visit.
According to Udhampur Police, the DGP reviewed the ongoing operations on Udhampur-Kathua faultline and took stock of security deployment, operational strategy and coordination among different security agencies in the higher reaches.
In a post on X, Udhampur Police said, "DGP J&K reviewed the ongoing operations on Udhampur-Kathua faultline."
In another post, police said the DGP and IGP Jammu also felicitated the brave personnel whose extraordinary efforts led to neutralisation of two Pakistani Jaish terrorists in Operation Soan.
The felicitation was done to boost morale of the troops who are working in tough terrain and adverse conditions to keep the region safe from terror threats.
Police officials said that security forces have intensified anti-terror operations and search operations in Udhampur, Kathua, Doda, Kishtwar and adjoining hilly areas following recent infiltration attempts and terror incidents.
The Udhampur-Kathua-Doda belt has seen heightened security activity in recent months after reports of movement of foreign terrorists in upper reaches.
The DGP directed officers to maintain high alert, strengthen intelligence network and ensure close synergy between Army, Police and paramilitary forces to foil any attempt of terrorists to disturb peace in Jammu region.
Further search and cordon operations are continuing in the higher reaches of Udhampur and Kathua, officials said.
