ACB traps Deputy Director Agriculture, his tout for accepting Rs 50,000 bribe in Srinagar

SRINAGAR :

 Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) J&K on Tuesday trapped Deputy Director Agriculture Law Enforcement along with his tout while demanding and accepting illegal gratification in Srinagar.

As per officials, ACB Srinagar received a written complaint wherein complainant alleged that accused public servant Naseer Ahmad Khan demanded Rs 2 lakh bribe from a seed dealer for allowing him to sell plant seeds at his shop. The complainant under compulsion had already paid Rs 1 lakh. The remaining amount was to be paid in two installments of Rs 50,000 each.

Unwilling to pay further bribe, the complainant approached ACB and sought legal action.

On receipt of complaint, allegations were verified and prima facie established demand of Rs 2 lakh. Accordingly, FIR No. 16/2026 under Section 7, 7A of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and Section 61(2) BNS was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar.

On 30-09-2026, a trap team was constituted and accused public servant Naseer Ahmad Khan, Deputy Director Agriculture Law Enforcement, along with his tout Mohammad Owais Bhat resident of Qamarwari, was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs 50,000 as bribe from complainant. Both were arrested on spot.

Tainted bribe money of Rs 50,000 was recovered from their possession. Both accused were subjected to medico-legal formalities and lodged at Police Station Shaheed Gunj Srinagar.

Further investigation in the case is going on.
