SRINAGAR :In an unusual weather phenomenon, October has lost its cool in Kashmir with Valley breaking decades-old temperature records.
Qazigund has broken its 1985 record to record hottest October day ever, while Kokernag has surpassed its 2008 mark. Srinagar city has recorded its second-highest October temperature, while famous ski-resort Gulmarg witnessed its second-hottest October day.
According to Meteorological Department, the unprecedented rise in October temperatures is due to prolonged dry spell and absence of western disturbances.
The heatwave in autumn has left locals and tourists surprised, with daytime temperatures remaining well above normal for this time of year.
